This was originally posted on Slashdot and I just read it on a friends Blog, it’s really quite entertaining. I wish I had six months to spend working on my own projects.. Oh who am I kidding – I would spend the whole six months playing World of Warcraft.

I had a similar run-in with a canned project while working at Motorola. Some of the projects they got rid of were extremely interesting and were light years ahead of their time (kind of like those crazy 3d mathematical graphs on the Apple). The project I was involved with was the StreamMaster. This was a set-top box that played movies on demand, played games, integrated web browser (Mosaic), broadband connection, and so much more. Mind you, this is what we are just now seeing on a device that was being worked on in the late 90s. Google searches don’t turn up much for it, but it was truly an awesome project.

Sometimes you just gotta fight all the corporate bullshit and do work for the greater good, although the usual limiter is of course, money.
